Teachers Celebrate Awards Success

For Information

Dedication, achievement and optimism - all qualities that have made three colleagues stand out and be noticed Teaching Awards.

Kate Webster, Marian Hossell and Bridget Costi all celebrated at a glittering awards ceremony after being chosen from 6000 nominations to become finalists in the regional Teaching Awards.

Kate who has been headteacher at QEGS for over six years, was commended in the Headteacher of the Year category, for being, as a Y7 pupil said, 'really kind and helping our school to be a better place'.

Marian Hossell, Headteacher at Brunswick Park Primary School, was commended in the Lifetime Achievement category. The Deputy Headteacher and Chair of Governors highlighted her work in developing an inclusive school with a highly professional team.

Bridget Costi, Teaching Assistant at The Pavilion Centre, was commended as Teaching Assistant of the Year for her dedication to pupils at the PRU.

The ceremony was hosted by BBC presenter Riz Lateef, and attended by Lord Puttnam CBE, Baroness (Shirley) Williams of Crosby, education professionals, pupils and colleagues from finalists' schools.

Cllr Fiona Bulmer, Barnet Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Service, said, "I'm delighted that Barnet's teachers have been recognised for their hard work and dedication. I congratulate them on their awards and thank them for all the excellent work they do in their schools."

Swimming Their Way to Sheffield

In May children from Cromer Road Primary School competed at Barnet Copthall Pools in the Division 10 Primary Schools Team Championships.

These championships are a preliminary round for the ESSA National Swimming Championships for primary schools held at Pond Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Division 10 is represented by primary schools from Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow.

About 30 schools in Division 10 took part in the team events (the majority of these schools were private schools / prep schools). Cromer Road was the only school from Barnet to take part and also the only state school in Division 10.

The swimmers from Cromer Road had trained hard prior to the events which paid off as the boys mixed stroke relay team came second in the finals and the boys' freestyle team secured third place in the finals.

The boys' mixed stroke relay team won Cromer Road School a place in the National Finals on Saturday 23 June at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

This is the second time in two years that Cromer Road has reached the National Finals in Sheffield. A real achievement for Connor Dutton, Freddie Flinn, Ross Mason, Toby Pasmore and Kane Vincent-Young and for their swimming coach Jim Collis.
