For Information The Joint Area Review confirmed the progress that both the Children and Families Service and Education Service have made over the past four years and we want to build further improvement on that foundation. We want to ensure that existing teams remain intact so that we can sustain our focus on improving outcomes for children and young people but we are bringing together service management. From 1 April, the existing leadership teams for Children and Families and Education will become the Children's Service Leadership Team (CLT) and, as now, each member of CLT will lead and manage a division of the service. We will combine these divisions into four groups:
We have now recruited to the posts to lead each of these groups:
Mark will be joining us from Thurrock where is he is currently Head of Universal and Targeted Services for Children. Of course, his appointment is subject to all the usual pre-employment checks and I will be able to confirm a start date when these are complete. Many of you will already know Graham, Martin and Val. We will continue to be based at North London Business Park and our telephone numbers and email addresses remain unchanged. I am grateful for your support during this change process. Gillian Palmer |

For Action Once again your help is needed to distribute the application forms, enclosed in the school bag, to all Year Six pupils. This training for young cyclists is very important as it helps them to gain the necessary skills to cope with the busy traffic on Barnet's roads. For pupils wishing to cycle to secondary school, the training is essential as most insist that pupils have passed the training course before allowing them to cycle to school. Once the pupils and parents have filled in their forms, they need to send them directly to the Planning & Safety Team as detailed in the enclosed letters. Ilias Ioannou / Janice Jones |

For information The CD enclosed in the School Bag has been produced by the Primary National Strategy to "Help children achieve age related expectations (securing Level 4 by the end of Key Stage 2) in both Literacy and Mathematics." It contains all existing booster materials, year targets and new materials. There are three new wave one literacy revision units, including daily plans and teaching notes covering strands 7, 9, 10 and 11 in the revised framework. The new levelled revision materials for mathematics cover the 7 strands from the revised framework. This is a valuable resource for teachers in Years 5 and 6. Further copies can be ordered from Prolog should you require them. Jean Taylor |
