| Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy Programmes | ![]() |

| For Action - Response required by 24 November 2006
You may be aware that each year the Local Authority receives funding to support Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy programmes. We are pleased to attach an application form and guidance notes outlining approved courses and funding available for courses that may be hosted during 2006-07. The current Extended Services agenda - which provides a range of services and activities to meet the needs of children and their families - demonstrates the powerful links between parental involvement and children's achievement. Family Learning can play a vital role in establishing these links and supporting schools and childrens centres in achieving the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. Commitment from the school or centre is vital and whilst it will be the responsibility of the school to identify and recruit parents and carers onto the programmes, we are able to supply experienced tutors to work with you who will be supported by our Family Learning Team. To register your interest in delivering any of the courses, please complete the enclosed form and return it to Wendy Wilson. Once your application has been registered, you will be contacted to discuss the way forward. However, if you require any further information or feel it would be helpful to discuss the courses in more detail please contact Wendy on 020 8359 7781 or Janet Abousaada or Sharon Lee on 020 8359 7784. | Performance Management Workshops Postponed | ![]() |
For Information You will have seen the item in last week's circular, drawing your attention to workshops on the new performance management arrangements for teachers and headteachers. As a result of a sudden announcement by Schools Minister Jim Knight last Thursday, the decision has been taken to postpone these sessions for Barnet schools. It was not clear from the statement he made when the regulations would be published. The announcement basically allows schools to have until the middle of the autumn term 2007 to start the performance management cycle under the new regulations. When Barnet sent out details of the October briefings to schools last week, all local authorities were working on the basis that the deadline was to be January 31st 2007. Thursday's announcement alters that and gives more time to make fuller preparations. Mike Horton will be contacting you in due course with new details, once the regulations are published. In the meanwhile, you could resume your normal performance management cycle in advance of the new regulations being published. I apologise for the change in plans so soon after notifying you about our original arrangements. Mike HortonSchool Workforce Advisor |
