Our Food, Our World - new teaching resources from Oxfam

For Information

Our Food, Our World, Oxfam's latest resource for teachers, is a fantastic way to cover a core primary topic - and bring the world into your classroom at the same time. Featuring five children from very different parts of the world - Mexico, South Africa, France, Thailand and India - this pack brings their experiences to life by exploring the food they eat.

This comprehensive package includes: a 64p teachers' booklet, a CD-ROM of photographs, an A1 full-colour poster, and 32 full-colour photocards. Using cross-curricular activities and differentiated reading material, Our Food, Our World helps you to cover core themes such as healthy food, where food comes from, how it gets to the table, and common necessities; as well as topical issues such as food miles. There are photocopiable resource sheets for literacy, science and Citizenship/PSHE, and the photos can be used on interactive whiteboards or pupils' own PCs.  The pack is ideal for use with pupils aged 5 to 9.

You can sample activities from the pack by exploring the free online materials. These include lesson plans, case studies, and photographs, and can be found at: http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/teachers/ofow/index.htm.  Further information about the printed pack can also be found here. You can also claim a free poster featuring all five children by emailing your details (name, address and school position) to publish@oxfam.org.uk
