National Healthy Schools Status

For Information

Please find in enclosures section of this week's School Circular a letter about the change to the way the National Healthy Schools Programme records the number of schools achieving National Healthy Schools Status.

Many schools achieved the standard for healthy schools prior to September 2005 and are known as Level 3 schools. From 20 July 2007, a school can only call itself a 'Healthy School' once it has achieved the National Healthy Schools Status (i.e. they have fully met the 41 criteria across all four core themes - Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, PSHE and Emotional Health and Well Being). Therefore, if you are a Level 3 school, and have not yet achieved the new National Healthy Schools Status, your school will not be included in the total number of schools achieving National Healthy Schools Status. Also, unless you are working towards the new status, you may not be on the national database as participating in the National Healthy Schools Programme.

You can register your school with the National Healthy Schools Programme at www.healthyschools.gov.uk The Barnet Healthy Schools Scheme team can support you in your progress towards the new Healthy Schools Status. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Rodgers on 020 8359 6370 or dave.rodgers@barnet.gov.uk

Website for Job Searchers

For Information

The revamped Barnet Jobs website www.barnetjobs.org.uk was launched last week.

The website has been developed by the Barnet Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), and features links to jobs with the borough's biggest employers, including the council, the Primary Care Trust and Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

The aim of revamping the site is to encourage students and the unemployed in Barnet to find a job, training or educational opportunity all in one place.

Free internet access is available in all Barnet libraries.

Celebrating Success

Manorside School has received the Healthy Schools status.

Congratulations to the following schools for having their School Travel Plan approved by Transport for London:

All Saint's N20, Beis Yaakov, Bell Lane, Blessed Dominic, Brookland Junior, Christ Church, Danegrove, Edgware Infant, Edgware Junior, Grasvenor Avenue Infant, Hampden Way Nursery, Hollickwood, Livingstone, Lyonsdown, Manorside, Menorah Foundation, Monkfrith, Rosh Pinah, St Agnes', St Andrew's, St Catherine's, St Mary's & St 's John's, St Paul's N11, The Hyde, Trent and Woodridge.

If any Barnet school is interested in finding out more about school travel plans and the support available to help to develop one please contact the council's School Travel Plan Coordinator, Alison Sharpe, on 8359 7603 or alison.sharpe@barnet.gov.uk.

It is thought that schools that send their travel plan for approval by March 2008 will be the last to receive a capital grant from the DfES (for state maintained schools) or from TfL (for Independent Schools).

STP Capital grant for Primary schools = £3750 plus £5 per pupil
STP Capital grant for Secondary or SEN Schools = £5000 plus £5 per pupil
