School Admission Arrangements for 2013/14

For information

The admission arrangements for all Barnet schools will be formally determined in April 2012 following the annual consultation exercise which begins in January 2012.  Please see the enclosures section for a letter and a timetable for the consultation process for co-ordinated admissions in 2013/14 for your attention.

Any queries regarding the letter and/or timetable should be made to Alison Dawes, Head of Access to Schools, Building 4, North London Business Park, London N11 1NP or by email to alison.dawes@barnet.gov.uk

Barnet's new CAF form is now available

For information

Barnet's new CAF form is now available for use and can be downloaded from: www.barnet.gov.uk/caf-practitioner-info. The form is much shorter than the old national CAF and has been re-designed following consultation with a wide range of local practitioners.

The form will now be used as a referral tool to access a range of more targeted services, including:
- the new Family Focus Team, who work intensively with families where there are multiple needs (but below the threshold for Social Care) and also with families who are reluctant to engage.
- most youth support services
- from January, CAMHS' (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) clinic (tier 3) services.

The new CAF is significantly shorter, with less repetition and is more family focussed. It helps practitioners and the family to track progress made/distance travelled from the start of the assessment through to successive reviews, by use of a simple family self-assessment system. A scale of 1-5 is being introduced across all sections of the CAF, where 5 is the most significant and 1 is the least, from the families' perception. It also includes a new section to indicate that the CAF is being used as a referral to other targeted services.
The rest of the CAF process (such as having a clear action plan and reviews and the concept of a Lead Professional and Team Around the Child) will be remaining the same

The CAF will act as the referral route to a number of other targeted early intervention services in due course, and we'll keep you informed as these changes are about to happen.

If you need help using the new CAF, please contact the Multi-Agency Coordinators (MACs) and CAF Social Workers. A CAF Duty Desk operates every week day from 9am-5pm on 020 8359 4405 or email e-caf@barnet.gov.uk  (or e-caf-gcsx@barnet.gov.uk if using secure email). The desk will act as a single point of entry for all CAFs being used as a referral to a targeted service. We can also advise whether a CAF already exists for a child and can offer individual or group support to practitioners around all aspects of using a CAF.
